Candace Pert, PhD, noted research scientist, will present the keynote address for the national convention of the American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia (AOBTA®) at the Boston Park Plaza, September 1, 2007 at 7 pm. Her speech, “The Secret of Being Present”, will focus on a discussion of the theories of the bodymind and ideas about the intersection between western science and the eastern traditions of meridians, energy psychology and energy medicine. Tickets are available for $40 per person.
Dr. Pert is best known for her opiate receptor, endorphin and peptide research. Her work is based on how the bodymind functions as a single psychosomatic network of information molecules which control our health and physiology. She is featured in the movie What the Bleep Do We Know!? and in Bill Moyer's PBS series Healing and the Mind. She is a former Research Professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine and Section Chief at the National Institute of Mental Health.
